Principal (Venture Capital)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; 5-day-a-week, in-office role. Travel is expected within Japan, across Asia, and periodically to the United States. Candidates must be authorized to work in Japan at the time of application and throughout employment; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: ¥15–20 million annual base salary, plus corporate bonus, carry potential, and benefits.

What you will do

• Source Seed-stage investment opportunities across Japan and select Asian markets.
• Build relationships with founders, angel investors, funds, universities, accelerators, LP networks, and other ecosystem participants.
• Screen opportunities through founder interviews, product reviews, market assessments, competitive analysis, and evaluation of teams, traction, business models, and technology differentiation.
• Coordinate financial, legal, and market diligence with US-based investment professionals and support investment memo preparation and transactions.
• Maintain portfolio relationships, evaluate follow-on investments, and monitor portfolio performance and key metrics.
• Help Japanese and Asian founders access international capital, partnerships, and market expansion opportunities while developing hirify.global’ regional presence.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, consulting, corporate strategy, or an early-stage startup environment.
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or an advanced degree is preferred.
• Strong analytical ability to evaluate early-stage business models and technologies.
• Professional fluency in Japanese and English is required.
• Deep knowledge of the Japanese startup ecosystem, including local networks and market dynamics, is essential.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience or exposure to the US venture capital ecosystem.
• Familiarity with broader Asian startup markets.
