Senior Backend Engineer (with Frontend Competency) (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in Bogotá, Colombia, or Mexico City, Mexico. Hybrid work includes time at the office, customer visits, and working from home; office attendance is expected organically and may be required during ramp-up or by the team leader.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain secure and resilient Java/Spring Boot backend services integrating with payment processors and local financial networks.
• Optimize transaction-data processing for high availability, low latency, and strong payment success rates.
• Develop React applications, dashboards, and internal tools with clean API consumption and deep backend integration.
• Use AI tools across design, coding, debugging, deployment, and engineering workflow automation.
• Lead backend code reviews and system-design reviews while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
• Implement monitoring, logging, and tracing across the stack to identify failures in external financial APIs and support graceful recovery.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend or systems development in full-stack or distributed-systems environments.
• Strong Java and Spring expertise, with deep knowledge of relational databases, concurrency, microservices, and scalable APIs.
• At least 2 years of commercial React experience, including Hooks, state management, responsive web applications, and frontend optimization.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful and event-driven services using technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Strong TDD, integration testing, frontend testing, and CI/CD practices using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, and GitHub Actions.
• Working proficiency in English and the ability to collaborate with Product, Design, and Operations.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-traffic payment gateways, ledger systems, or local financial networks such as Pix.
• Experience working with sensitive financial data, PCI-DSS, encryption, or tokenization.
• Hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, Devin, or n8n-based workflow automation.
