Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Localization (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Onsite five days per week in Santa Clara, California, United States

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize sensor-based localization and odometry algorithms for autonomous vehicles.
• Build sensor-fusion pipelines using IMU, GPS, lidar, and other sensor data.
• Develop and integrate real-time SLAM for structured and unstructured environments.
• Collaborate with perception, mapping, and control teams to integrate localization into the autonomous driving stack.
• Test and validate algorithms in simulation and real-world scenarios, including challenging urban environments.
• Debug field-test issues, research advanced lidar and camera localization methods, and improve real-time performance and system robustness.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of production C++ software development experience, including architecture, unit testing, code review, and algorithm performance trade-offs.
• 2+ years of experience in autonomous vehicles or ADAS.
• Experience developing localization for autonomous vehicles or robotic systems, especially GPS-IMU sensor fusion and SLAM.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python, with hands-on ROS or ROS2 experience.
• Expertise in pose estimation, probabilistic and Kalman filtering, nonlinear optimization, sensor calibration, large-scale datasets, and real-time performance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with MATLAB or Simulink.
• Strong linear algebra, probability, and optimization skills.
• Experience optimizing and deploying real-time control systems.
