TL;DR
Senior Satellite Image Processing Engineer (Satellite Analytics): Defining and implementing the end-to-end satellite data product chain from raw detector output and onboard processing through L1A/L1B generation, calibration, and delivery-ready imagery with an accent on radiometric and geometric calibration, metadata, and processing architecture. Focus on planning in-orbit calibration campaigns, designing onboard-versus-ground processing, coordinating hardware interfaces, and building cloud-native geospatial data workflows.

Location: hirify.global GmbH Berlin Office, Germany (hybrid)

Company

hirify.global is developing Twinspector, a dual-satellite very-high-resolution stereo constellation and its satellite analytics data products.

What you will do

  • Own and document the end-to-end processing chain from L0 raw detector output through onboard processing and ground L1A/L1B generation.
  • Define sensor output, telemetry, onboard data handling, downlink packaging, metadata, and final imagery product specifications.
  • Develop radiometric and geometric calibration workflows, including flat-field correction, sensor modelling, and RPC generation.
  • Plan and execute the in-orbit commissioning calibration programme, including DSNU/PRNU management, side-slither manoeuvres, lunar drift monitoring, reference-site campaigns, and stereo cross-calibration.
  • Coordinate ICDs, interface discussions, simulations, verification campaigns, schedules, and work packages with hardware and software partners.
  • Maintain AWS and Databricks environments and promote cloud-native geospatial standards such as COG, Zarr, and STAC.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of optical satellite data processing from L0 to L1B and calibration of space-borne optical instruments.
  • Experience with system-level data flows and onboard/ground processing dependencies.
  • Background in space systems engineering, remote sensing, or a related field.
  • Python experience for data analysis, processing workflows, and automation.
  • Ability to work in multi-stakeholder, multi-supplier environments and define technical interfaces.
  • Availability for hybrid work from the Berlin office in Germany.

Nice to have

  • TDI pushbroom sensor calibration experience.
  • In-orbit calibration campaign planning or execution.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, stereo satellite missions, photogrammetry, or commercial very-high-resolution satellite data.
  • Experience with ICDs or interface definition in space projects.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid work model.
  • Work-life balance with overtime compensated through time off and rest.
  • Career development, creative autonomy, internal workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, journal clubs, and hackathons.
  • International environment with more than 30 nationalities and an office in Berlin Kreuzberg.
  • Potential employee stock option programme, Urban Sports membership, BVG subsidy, and corporate pension programme.
