Silicon Software Lead (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York City or Silicon Valley

Salary: $200K–$400K plus equity

What you will do

• Lead and grow the silicon software team across compiler, runtime, and systems software while remaining involved in technical design and code reviews.
• Own the software stack architecture from ML framework ingestion and compilation through scheduling, memory management, and execution on Normal hardware.
• Co-design the instruction set architecture and hardware abstraction layer with silicon architects so the chip is programmable and optimised for inference workloads.
• Drive development of runtimes, kernels, drivers, profiling tools, and debugging tools.
• Maintain software continuity across simulation, FPGA prototypes, and silicon bring-up.
• Set the roadmap, define milestones aligned with the hardware programme, and hire systems engineers.

Requirements

• Substantial experience building software stacks for accelerators or non-standard hardware, including compilers, runtimes, kernels, or drivers.
• Experience leading engineers as a technical lead or manager while remaining hands-on in design and implementation.
• Strong systems programming skills in C++, Rust, or an equivalent language, plus fluency in Python.
• Deep understanding of ML inference workloads and hardware execution constraints.
• Experience with compiler frameworks such as MLIR or LLVM, inference runtimes, or kernel development.
• Experience developing software for evolving hardware from simulation through bring-up, including hiring and developing systems engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience taking an accelerator software stack from zero to production at a startup or in a new hardware programme.
• Experience with in-memory compute, processing-in-memory, or analogue hardware interfaces.
• Contributions to open-source compiler or runtime infrastructure.
• Experience with hardware-software co-design that influenced ISA or architecture decisions.
