Software Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco or New York City, United States

Base salary: $260,000–$300,000 per year, plus significant early-stage equity.

What you will do

• Design and ship core agent infrastructure for long-horizon task execution, including tool use, context management, planning, subagent orchestration, and sandboxed code execution.
• Improve editor intelligence, agent-in-the-loop workflows, real-time code understanding, and developer experience in Windsurf.
• Work directly with researchers to turn new model capabilities into production features.
• Build reliable, performant systems capable of handling millions of agentic tasks with low latency.
• Help define the direction of AI software engineering products and capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience building reliable, performant distributed systems with strong attention to correctness, failure modes, and production behavior.
• Strong product judgment and experience shipping software used by real people.
• Ability to make progress on ambiguous problems, learn quickly, and maintain high code quality while moving rapidly.
• Curiosity about LLMs, AI agents, agent failure modes, and reliable AI-powered systems.
• Strong Python proficiency and experience owning large Python codebases in production.
• Experience at a frontier AI lab, applied AI company, or developer tools company, plus a BS, MS, or equivalent technical degree from a highly selective program.
