Senior Rust Software Engineer (Quantum)

Location: Onsite at the office in Pleasanton, California, United States. Travel up to 5%, domestic or international.

Base salary: $142,113–$186,063 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture and development of reliable, high-performance production software in Rust.
• Design and verify system controllers, user-space drivers, and low-latency data acquisition pipelines for ARM SoCs.
• Implement and optimize precision control algorithms and control loops for quantum sensing instruments.
• Partner with hardware engineers on board testing, hardware bring-up, and fault-tolerant error handling.
• Develop and scale software libraries for controlling and automating quantum systems.
• Lead technical reviews, retrospectives, process improvements, and mentorship for junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience in embedded or hardware-adjacent environments.
• Must meet U.S. export-control requirements: U.S. citizenship or national status, lawful U.S. permanent residency, or qualifying refugee or asylee status.
• Comfort working hands-on in a laboratory with physical hardware and complex test setups.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across hardware, software, and physics disciplines.

Nice to have

• Experience with C/C++, Python, and scientific libraries for data analysis and modeling.
• Experience designing and implementing PID loops, fixed-point digital filters, and other advanced control algorithms.
• Experience with TCP/UDP, UART, SPI, I2C, SoC/FPGA architectures, and Linux device drivers.
• Proficiency with oscilloscopes, function generators, voltmeters, and other test equipment.
