Publicly traded aerospace and defense company developing a full-stack autonomy platform for aircraft, from takeoff to touchdown.

What you will do

  • Set the technical direction for autonomous decision-making, behavior execution, and motion-planning capabilities for airborne systems.
  • Define research, experiments, and development projects supporting mission autonomy.
  • Lead architecture design and technology trade-off analysis for short- and long-term autonomy objectives.
  • Identify capability gaps and staffing needs while aligning technical plans with the technology roadmap.
  • Contribute hands-on software development when needed.
  • Support simulation, system integration, and flight testing to validate real-world performance.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional experience developing software for airborne autonomous systems.
  • Subject-matter expertise in mission-management frameworks, autonomy algorithms, contingency management, or machine learning for decision-making and behavior generation.
  • Technical leadership experience for a team of at least four engineers at different levels.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++, modern software development workflows, version control, pipelines, unit testing, and peer review.
  • Experience with system-level product development, aircraft simulation, proposal writing, and technical roadmap development.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ROS, DDS, or similar robotics and autonomy middleware.
  • Experience with government open architectures such as A-GRA, OMS, or FACE.
  • Experience with avionics, hardware and software integration, debugging, or flight testing.
  • Awareness of aviation certification standards such as DO-178.
  • Pilot license and flight experience.
