TL;DR
Guidance, Navigation, & Controls (GNC), Controls Engineer (aerospace): Designing and implementing spacecraft guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for Axiom Space modules with an accent on control-law development, 6-DOF modeling, simulation, and flight-ready software. Focus on Monte Carlo robustness analysis, SIL/HIL verification, real-time performance, and troubleshooting GNC anomalies across multidisciplinary vehicle teams.

Location: Onsite in Houston, United States, at the Space Station Development Facility. Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency and completion of a U.S. government background investigation are required.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial human spaceflight services, advanced spacesuits, and Axiom Station, a commercial space station for research and sustained human presence in orbit.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, and implement GNC algorithms and control laws for spacecraft and other aerospace vehicles.
  • Develop high-fidelity 6-DOF vehicle, sensor, actuator, and environmental disturbance models.
  • Evaluate control effectors such as thrusters, reaction wheels, and control moment gyroscopes.
  • Run Monte Carlo analyses, sensitivity studies, stability assessments, and nominal/off-nominal performance simulations.
  • Translate algorithms into flight-ready software and integrate, test, and verify functionality through SIL, HIL, and integrated system testing.
  • Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, structures, embedded software, and mission operations teams while supporting design reviews, anomaly analysis, and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 4–9 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing attitude control systems for flight vehicles, preferably spacecraft, in areas such as control-law development, stability analysis, momentum-exchange actuators, flexible modes, or optimization.
  • Experience with SWIL/HWIL testing, actuator characterization, model development, and 6-DOF Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Proficiency in C++, MATLAB, and/or Python; experience with NASA Trick and JEOD is preferred.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Houston and work evenings or weekends when required for critical project milestones.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NASA’s Trick simulation framework and JSC Engineering Orbital Mechanics (JEOD).
  • Spacecraft control-system development experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven work focused on commercial space infrastructure and human spaceflight.
  • Environment emphasizing leadership, innovation, teamwork, accountability, and ownership.
  • Fast-moving, ambiguous projects requiring resourcefulness, adaptability, and high-quality execution.
  • Work may involve office-based tasks as well as indoor or outdoor activities depending on project needs.
