What you will do

  • Lead civil certification strategy with the FAA and foreign aviation authorities, serving as the primary technical authority and regulatory liaison for U.S. certifications.
  • Manage certification projects from initial assessments and certification basis through compliance closure, including plans, issue papers, and risk assessments.
  • Lead and grow the Military Airworthiness and Cyber Certification teams, setting priorities, standardizing processes, mentoring staff, and reviewing technical work.
  • Oversee military airworthiness strategies and documentation under MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-882E, DEF STANs, and JSSG guidance.
  • Direct airborne cyber security assurance integration across civil and military programs and coordinate it with safety and development assurance processes.
  • Build scalable certification frameworks and report program health and process-improvement progress to the VP of Airworthiness & Certification.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience achieving FAA Part 23 and/or Part 25 type certificates, amendments, or Supplemental Type Certificates, with EASA or foreign validation experience.
  • 12+ years of aerospace certification experience and 5+ years leading or managing engineering teams across technical disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience leading certification for complex or novel aircraft technologies and working directly with regulatory authorities.
  • Knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 21, 23, 25, and 183; systems engineering; configuration management; DO-178C; DO-254; and safety assessment methods.
  • Working knowledge of military airworthiness standards, DoD cybersecurity frameworks, and airborne cybersecurity standards including DO-326A/ED-202A and DO-356A/ED-203A.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ASTM F3230, F3061, or other consensus-based certification standards for small and autonomous aircraft.
  • Background in autonomous or unmanned aviation systems and prior military operational experience.
  • Experience with machine-learning software assurance, scaling certification functions, or applying AI to standardize processes and requirements.
