TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer I/II (Aerospace): Developing complex electromechanical space mechanisms and structures from concept through production implementation with an accent on CAD, FEA, requirements management, and verification. Focus on leading responsible-engineer execution, validating system interfaces, managing technical risks and schedules, and mentoring engineers on demanding aerospace programs.

Location: Long Beach, California, with support for the Silver Spring, Maryland site; remote work from within the United States is possible. Approximately 10% travel or off-site work may be required. U.S. office work is subject to ITAR eligibility requirements.

Salary: $115,000–$198,000 USD base pay per year for California positions.

What you will do

  • Lead schedule-sensitive development of space mechanisms from concept through production implementation as the responsible engineer.
  • Design mechanisms and structures in CAD and perform hand calculations and FEA.
  • Define, trace, verify, and validate system requirements, including requirements verification matrices and risk management plans.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as system design descriptions, CONOPS, ICDs, reports, and presentations.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary teams, system interfaces, milestone reviews, technical interchange meetings, suppliers, customers, and external partners.
  • Improve engineering practices, mentor engineers, and support business development proposals and custom statements of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in aerospace mechanical development projects for Senior Engineer I; Senior Engineer II requires at least 8 years, including 3+ years as a responsible engineer.
  • Proficiency in CAD and FEA, with a thorough understanding of aerospace standards, environments, verification tests, and requirements.
  • Experience managing complex projects across organizational teams.
  • Senior Engineer II candidates must have experience mentoring other engineers.
  • For U.S. office work, candidates must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Proficiency in NX CAD and Simcenter FEA software.
  • Strong task management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience adapting to changing priorities and resolving blockers quickly.
