TL;DR
Electrical Engineer (Robotics) (Power Electronics/Embedded Hardware): Designing and deploying electrical systems for next-generation articulated and humanoid robots with an accent on PCB design, power distribution, sensor integration, communications, and safety systems. Focus on bringing up and validating complex robotic hardware, troubleshooting root causes, improving reliability and manufacturability, and scaling systems from prototypes to real-world fleets.

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid workplace

Develops advanced robotic platforms, including articulated and humanoid robots, supported by an in-house data foundry for collecting real-world manipulation data.

What you will do

  • Design electrical systems, electronics, schematics, PCB layouts, wire harnesses, and system architectures for robotic products.
  • Integrate power distribution, motor drives, sensors, communication interfaces, control circuits, and other electronic components.
  • Support system bring-up, debugging, validation, performance testing, and root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, controls, software, manufacturing, suppliers, and production partners.
  • Improve reliability, manufacturability, safety, cost efficiency, and product quality.
  • Support prototype builds, production scaling, and resolution of manufacturing or field issues.

Requirements

  • Background in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience developing electronic hardware for commercial products or complex systems.
  • Proficiency with PCB design tools such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Cadence.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design fundamentals.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power analyzers, soldering tools, and breadboards.
  • Professional proficiency in English and Japanese is required. Experience with CAN, EtherCAT, RS422, RS485, I2C, or similar interfaces is also expected.

Nice to have

  • Experience in robotics, automation, power electronics, motor control, battery systems, or embedded hardware.
  • Embedded system programming, especially with STM32, sensor integration, signal conditioning, or high-speed digital design.
  • Experience with safety-critical systems, humanoid robots, mobile robots, AMRs, AGVs, or warehouse and retail robotics.
  • Experience taking products from prototype through mass production.
