TL;DR
Hardware Engineering Technician (Advanced Manufacturing Equipment): Assembling, integrating, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and qualifying complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical systems for metal additive manufacturing equipment with an accent on precision assembly, system integration, and new product introduction. Focus on tracing electrical and pneumatic signals, adjusting laser optics, resolving cross-system failures, and guiding prototypes through pilot builds and production release.

Location: Fremont, California, United States; on-site

What you will do

  • Assemble, integrate, test, troubleshoot, repair, and qualify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical systems.
  • Test and repair subsystems supplied by third parties and support complete system integration.
  • Guide new product introduction from prototype development through pilot builds and production release.
  • Create, review, redline, and update assembly, testing, calibration, and process documentation.
  • Provide engineering feedback to improve product designs, assembly instructions, and documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement, department projects, and cross-functional company initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or a related engineering environment, preferably capital equipment manufacturing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and optical assemblies and systems.
  • Experience with circuits, sensors, cable harnesses, electrical enclosures, schematics, piping, instrumentation diagrams, pumps, valves, filters, and fluid-flow systems.
  • Hands-on experience with linear stages, guide systems, machining, forming, welding, and mechanical system troubleshooting.
  • Ability to handle physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, working occasionally in confined spaces, and safely operating lifting equipment for assemblies exceeding 3,000 pounds.
  • Proficiency with Windows, software and driver installation, local network troubleshooting, IP networking, and Modbus protocols, plus strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with advanced manufacturing or capital equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and handling optics and willingness to learn precision optical assembly, adjustment, and laser-path evaluation.
