V&V Engineer, Mechanical (Automotive)

What you will do

• Characterize vehicles and derive mechanical requirements at module and component level with bidirectional traceability to test evidence.
• Own mechanical DVP&R activities, including functional and performance testing for vibration, shock, thermal, and environmental conditions on prototype and production-intent hardware.
• Build and maintain custom test fixturing, troubleshoot mechanical functionality and compatibility issues, and lead root cause analysis through corrective-action closure.
• Collaborate with design, systems, quality, and software engineers to integrate mechanical V&V and Design for Test into the wider program.
• Manage compliance testing and certification against ISO 26262, UL 4600, SAE J1455, ISO 16750, UL, CE, IEC, and OEM standards, including coordination with accredited laboratories.
• Develop the mechanical V&V methodology, laboratory capability, and toolchain, and assess OEM DV/PV processes for effort, complexity, and cost.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a mechanical V&V role, preferably in automotive or heavy vehicles.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
• Understanding of all aspects of an automotive DV/PV process and deep understanding of automotive PPAP.
• Working knowledge of automotive APQP and AEC standards.
• Experience working directly with automotive OEMs and Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.
• Practical knowledge of international automotive environmental and safety standards, including ASTM B117, SAE J1455, or MIL-STD-810.
• Ability to adapt V&V processes for different OEMs.
• Direct experience characterizing vehicles to establish environmental requirements for new projects or OEMs.

Nice to have

• Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment or developing self-driving vehicles.
• Experience with NRTL/UL and CE certification.
• Experience with SolidWorks, ANSYS, or Polarion.
• Experience designing and building HIL test benches and automating regression testing.
• Experience with accelerated life testing, HALT/HASS, and Weibull or reliability demonstration analysis.
• Ability to perform risk analysis and prevention, FMEA, FTA, RCA, and FEA.
• Experience with CANbus, Python, Shell, or Unix OS.
