Senior Firmware Engineer (Embedded C/C++)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Annual base salary: $90,000–$140,000

What you will do

• Define firmware requirements with marketing and assess the feasibility and limitations of proposed product features.
• Collaborate with hardware designers and test engineers on firmware architecture and detailed design specifications.
• Implement algorithms, embedded functions, and hardware drivers for SoC-based timing solutions.
• Create integration test plans, unit tests, and automated regression scripts.
• Investigate complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and support system-level integration and debugging.
• Develop firmware development, debugging, and testing tools and maintain technical documentation.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in electrical or computer engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience in embedded software development.
• Deep expertise in C/C++ programming and experience with low-level firmware development.
• Experience developing unit tests and using scripting languages such as Python or TCL.
• Knowledge of embedded processors or DSP architectures, RTOS, and hardware/software interactions.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, laboratory, and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Background in digital signal processing algorithms and analysis.
• Knowledge of timing standards and SoC development or integration.
• Familiarity with Agile processes and tools such as JIRA, Git, and Confluence.
