TL;DR
Quality Assurance Manager (Aerospace): Leading site quality and mission assurance for concurrent space, defense, and national security flight programs with an accent on AS9100D certification, aerospace audits, and flight-hardware compliance. Focus on managing MRB and corrective-action workflows, developing mission assurance plans, overseeing supplier quality, and enforcing space-grade manufacturing standards.

Location: On-site in San Diego, California, United States. Occasional domestic travel of up to 10% is required.

Salary: $145,000–$195,000 USD base salary per year, plus incentive plan eligibility.

What you will do

  • Own and continuously improve the site AS9100D and ISO 9001 Quality Management System, maintaining certification and audit readiness.
  • Act as the primary quality authority for external auditors, customers, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and aerospace prime contractors.
  • Lead Material Review Board activities and NCR, CAR, and SCAR workflows, including root cause analysis and corrective-action verification.
  • Develop Mission Assurance and Quality Assurance Plans and enforce IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, the Space Addendum, and NASA-STD-8739 workmanship standards.
  • Review End Item Data Packages for traceability and customer and regulatory compliance before shipment.
  • Manage supplier quality, counterfeit-parts prevention, GIDEP screening, government property control, and quality engineering and inspection resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant quality, industrial, manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering field with 7 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with 5 years of experience or 11 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Deep working knowledge of AS9100D and experience with aerospace quality audits, MRB activities, NCR, CAR, SCAR, 8D, and 5-Why methods.
  • Experience with space-grade workmanship standards, supplier quality management, source inspection, and PCBA manufacturing.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, assembly drawings, specifications, and data sheets for complex electronic hardware.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading technical quality and inspection teams of up to 10 people.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice to have

  • Active U.S. Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
  • ASQ certification such as CMQ/OE or CQE.
  • IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications, including the Space Addendum.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt and familiarity with AS5553, AS6174, NADCAP, and configuration management.
