Lead Data Scientist (AI)

Location: On-site in Berlin

Salary: €120,000 – €160,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Build, mentor, and lead an elite data science team as a player-coach.
• Design, train, and deploy business-critical models for AI search and recommendations.
• Develop novel algorithms to reverse-engineer LLM behavior and search performance.
• Own the full ML lifecycle from research and experimentation to production deployment and monitoring.
• Architect scalable data and ML systems, making high-leverage decisions on infrastructure and modeling.
• Set the technical bar by writing and reviewing production-grade code.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional data science experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role at a high-growth startup or top-tier tech company.
• Proven history of scaling complex ML systems from research to high-impact production.
• Exceptional command of Python and applied machine learning, including systems-level instincts for APIs and data pipelines.
• Deep, first-principles understanding of LLMs and AI search systems.
• Experience with cloud-native environments (GCP preferred) and tools like FastAPI and Docker.
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to lead through ambiguity.

• Recognized contributions to open-source projects or foundational ML tooling.
• Publicly visible research projects or talks at top-tier AI conferences.
• Founder experience or senior technical leadership in high-growth environments.
• Fluency in TypeScript.
