Photonics Hardware Validation Engineer

Location: Mountain View, CA, with a flexible hybrid workplace model. Candidates must be able to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control requirements.

Salary: $177,000–$240,000 USD per year, plus equity and other rewards.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and build photonic test systems for product characterization and validation.
• Lead chip bring-up, testing, and validation of next-generation optical interconnect products.
• Develop validation and test plans aligned with product specifications, xDVT, and interoperability testing.
• Configure test benches, set up laboratory equipment, and troubleshoot validation setups.
• Perform electro-optic and link-level testing using industry-standard laboratory equipment.
• Collaborate with device, hardware, software, digital, analog, and design engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with bench test equipment for data communications and electro-optic link characterization.
• Experience testing and debugging electro-optic circuits and familiarity with PCB design.
• Understanding of electrical and optical transmitter and receiver blocks.
• Ability to troubleshoot transceiver building blocks, triage bugs, and identify root causes of performance gaps.
• Basic scripting skills for laboratory test automation, result analysis, and report generation.

Nice to have

• PhD in a relevant field.
• Experience with high-speed data communication systems, including NRZ and PAM4 signaling.
• Familiarity with IEEE, OIF-CEI, or similar data communication standards.
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers in laboratory validation workflows.
