Senior Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer

Location: Onsite in Pueblo, Colorado, United States. Up to 10% travel within the continental United States.

Salary: $115,000–$140,000 USD per year base salary.

What you will do

• Design, program, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based control systems across multiple vendor platforms.
• Integrate robotic work cells, machine vision systems, and machine learning solutions into solid rocket motor and energetic materials production.
• Design electrical systems and hazardous-environment installations compliant with NEC, UL508A, and C1D1/C2D1 requirements.
• Build electrical cabinets, install field wiring, and develop plant networking, data acquisition, remote access, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Create and maintain schematics, technical documentation, and bills of materials while collaborating with Manufacturing, Safety, Compliance, and Manufacturing Development.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods and mentor junior engineers and technicians, with a path toward leading the automation and controls group.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline with 7 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a relevant master’s degree with 5 years of experience or 11 years of hands-on experience in lieu of a degree.
• Extensive PLC programming, troubleshooting, and optimization experience across multiple platforms, plus robotic system integration, motion control, safety systems, and end-of-arm tooling.
• Hands-on experience building electrical cabinets, running field wiring, and maintaining schematics, documentation, and bills of materials.
• Working knowledge of machine learning applications in manufacturing, such as vision inspection, predictive maintenance, or adaptive process control.
• Must satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements and be able to obtain and maintain applicable explosives licenses and authorizations.
• Must be at least 21, pass legally required background investigations, and work in compliance with drug-free workplace and hazardous-material regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with energetic materials, explosives, or hazardous manufacturing environments.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification with practical application in automated production.
