Data Scientist – Simulation (Senior - Principal)

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA — HQ; hybrid work arrangement. Up to 10% travel may be required to client and customer locations.

Salary: $149,000–$204,600 base annual pay, with the final offer depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Design and develop simulation frameworks for robotic warehouse systems, including robot fleets, inventory flows, task allocation, and human-robot interaction.
• Build discrete-event and agent-based simulations for complex stochastic environments at scale.
• Develop predictive and prescriptive models to optimize throughput, latency, and resource utilization.
• Evaluate routing, task assignment, scheduling, and other algorithms before production deployment while identifying bottlenecks and failure modes.
• Create digital twins for scenario testing and capacity planning, applying machine learning and statistical techniques to improve calibration and realism.
• Establish practices for model validation, experimentation, reproducibility, and communicating recommendations to technical and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience for the Senior level or 8 years for the Principal level in simulation, modeling, systems optimization, and complex distributed systems.
• Strong experience with discrete-event simulation or agent-based modeling and Python, including NumPy, Pandas, and SciPy, or comparable simulation frameworks.
• Knowledge of probability, stochastic processes, statistics, and optimization methods such as LP, MIP, heuristics, and metaheuristics.
• Experience working with large datasets, building data pipelines, and translating real-world system behavior into computational models.
• Employees must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations.

Nice to have

• Experience in robotics, warehouse automation, logistics, supply chain systems, fleet optimization, or multi-agent systems.
• Knowledge of reinforcement learning, path planning, task allocation, scheduling algorithms, or digital twin architecture.
• Experience with C++ or other high-performance systems, cloud platforms, distributed computing, experimentation platforms, or A/B testing.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Grafana, Tableau, GCP, C#, or C++.
