Senior Database Engineer (SQL Server)

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server environments across on-premises and AWS cloud platforms.
• Manage Always On Availability Groups, replication, clustering, disaster recovery, and cross-region database operations.
• Diagnose and resolve locking, blocking, deadlock, query performance, and high-volume workload issues.
• Automate deployments, backups, patching, failovers, and capacity scaling with PowerShell or Python.
• Provision database infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation and implement security controls such as TDE and AWS IAM authentication.
• Partner with engineering, SRE, analytics, cloud platform, and security teams; respond to incidents, lead blameless reviews, document standards, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of production database engineering experience with deep SQL Server expertise.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, or equivalent cloud database platforms.
• Strong skills in performance tuning, indexing, high availability and disaster recovery, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
• Proficiency in PowerShell or Python and experience with Terraform or CloudFormation for automation and infrastructure as code.
• Working knowledge of TDE, IAM, encryption, SOC2, and HIPAA compliance requirements.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, or regulated SaaS environments.
• Familiarity with Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, or other cloud-native and non-relational databases.
• Exposure to data streaming, CDC-based ingestion, OLAP cube design, or advanced data mining.
• AWS Database Specialty or Microsoft SQL Server/Azure DBA certification.
