TL;DR
Senior Database Administrator (Azure/MS-SQL): Owning the performance, availability, and reliability of Sphera's database platforms across on-premises, Azure IaaS, and Azure PaaS environments with an accent on MS-SQL tuning, Azure networking, and HA/DR operations. Focus on optimizing complex workloads, managing clustering and failover, leading database migrations, and resolving critical incidents in a 24x7 support rotation.

What you will do
- Operate MS-SQL Server across on-premises VMs, Azure IaaS SQL VMs, and Azure PaaS SQL environments.
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing, fragmentation remediation, TempDB and statistics management, and blocking or deadlock resolution.
- Manage high availability and disaster recovery, including Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, geo-replication, failover testing, and backup and restore operations.
- Provision, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot Azure SQL resources, including elastic pools, Managed Instance, SQL VMs, and auto-failover groups.
- Manage secure Azure database connectivity across VNets, subnets, private endpoints, route tables, NSGs, DNS, and hybrid connections.
- Provide Tier-3 and Tier-4 support, automate operational tasks, lead migrations, perform root-cause analysis, and maintain technical documentation.
Requirements
- 8–12 years of database administration experience, including 5+ years supporting cloud-based SaaS environments.
- Deep MS-SQL Server expertise, including performance tuning, indexing, troubleshooting, clustering, and HA/DR ownership at scale.
- Strong Azure PaaS SQL and Azure networking experience, including Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, VNets, private endpoints, NSGs, DNS, and peering.
- Experience with T-SQL, PowerShell, Python or Shell, and Azure CLI.
- Experience supporting 24x7 on-call operations and collaborating with security, networking, application, DevOps, SaaS Operations, and infrastructure teams.
- Customer-facing service experience, strong communication, ITIL exposure, and adaptability.
Nice to have
- Terraform or Bicep experience.
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Databricks exposure.
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent monitoring tools.
- DP-300 or AZ-104 certification.
