TL;DR
Test and Launch Operations Engineer I (Aerospace): Operating Electron and Neutron launch vehicles and developing launch pad ground systems with an accent on integrated systems testing, ground support equipment, fluid systems, and facility operations. Location: Wallops Island, Virginia, United States; onsite launch and ground systems operations. U.S. office roles require eligibility under ITAR regulations.

Salary: $76,000–$95,000 USD base pay per year.

What you will do

  • Operate Electron and Neutron ground systems from the launch console during tests, rehearsals, and launches.
  • Support the development, integration, commissioning, and testing of launch pad infrastructure, ground support equipment, and facility systems.
  • Lead testing campaigns and perform ground system readiness checks.
  • Manage configuration and verification of launch pad hardware and facility systems.
  • Develop operational procedures, test plans, CONOPS documentation, and emergency response protocols.
  • Design and improve HMIs, monitor real-time systems data, and troubleshoot issues during test and launch operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably aerospace, mechanical, electrical, chemical, or mechatronic engineering.
  • At least 1 year of experience in engineering design, testing, or operations, with a focus on electrical or software engineering.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Solid practical understanding of fluid, cryogenic, pressurized, and hydraulic systems, hazardous materials, and propellant operations is beneficial for the role.
  • For U.S. office work, candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Two or more years of engineering design, testing, or operations experience.
  • Experience with launch complex infrastructure, pad systems, or ground support equipment.
  • Experience conducting real-time hazardous operations involving propellants or high-pressure gases.
  • Experience developing operational procedures, test plans, CONOPS documentation, or emergency response procedures.
