Senior Backend Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Own the foundations of LLM usage, including cost controls, data privacy, identity, and security.
• Design sandboxing, orchestration, and guardrail layers for internal product teams.
• Solve complex challenges like prompt-injection defense, multi-tenant isolation, and runaway-cost controls.
• Build systems for AI-assisted development, including coding agents and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with security and infrastructure teams to ensure safe, reliable agent deployments.
• Manage the full lifecycle of platform services, from architecture and implementation to on-call and iteration.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems.
• Deep proficiency in at least one of Python, TypeScript, Go, or Rust.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems (consistency, idempotency, scheduling, failure modes).
• Proven track record of building shared infrastructure or developer-facing services.
• Cloud-native experience including Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and OAuth/OIDC.
• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area for hybrid work.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating LLM infrastructure (gateways, inference systems, evaluation harnesses).
• Background in agent frameworks, tool-use systems, or sandboxed code execution.
• Experience with multi-tenant, regulated, or government deployments (HIPAA, SOC2).
• Open-source contributions to AI infrastructure or developer platforms.
