Hardware Project Manager / Technical Program Manager (Avionics)

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $145,000–$220,000 annually

What you will do

• Drive flight-critical avionics hardware development from concept through design, environmental qualification, flight certification, and mission integration.
• Translate spacecraft avionics requirements into executable plans, work packages, milestones, and integrated development schedules.
• Coordinate execution across Hardware Engineering, Embedded Software, FPGA, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Integration & Test.
• Manage hardware risks, technical blockers, material shortages, Engineering Change Orders, Material Review Boards, and configuration control.
• Partner with suppliers on PCB fabrication, PCBA, component procurement, prototype builds, inspections, and production transition.
• Support spacecraft integration, environmental testing, launch campaigns, and on-orbit anomaly investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 3–5+ years of experience leading complex hardware development programs, preferably in aerospace, defense, automotive, or another high-reliability industry.
• Strong understanding of PCB design and fabrication, prototype builds, qualification testing, manufacturing, production, and hardware integration.
• Technical literacy across embedded hardware, thermal and vibration testing, EMI/EMC, and electrical engineering workflows.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional engineering teams and managing program risks, priorities, and milestones.
• Proficiency with Jira, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, and PLM systems such as Arena, Windchill, or Agile PLM.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with flight computers, power distribution units, or RF/telemetry systems.
• Familiarity with DO-254, DO-160, IPC-A-610 Class 3, NASA, or ECSS standards.
• Experience influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority.
