VP Platform Engineering (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States. Hybrid role with comfortable full-time on-site presence in Palo Alto required; travel across the US and EU organization is expected.

Salary: $365,000–$470,000 annually in California, plus equity and a discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Own the strategy, architecture, and roadmap for the multi-tenant IaaS, bare-metal management, networking, APIs, customer console, and higher-level platform services.
• Translate product direction into platform execution in alignment with the CTO and in partnership with the CPO.
• Grow platform engineering toward more than 50 engineers across the US and EU, including capability teams for compute, storage, control plane, APIs, confidential computing, networking, and customer-facing systems.
• Build the leadership layer through hiring team leads, managers, and a Director for EMEA.
• Lead architecture reviews and technical decisions across software, GPU hardware, fabric, storage, and physical sites.
• Own delivery quality, on-call practices, incident response, reliability improvements, security alignment, and compliance evidence.

Requirements

• Track record of building and scaling a software engineering organization from a small team toward 50-plus people at VP or equivalent level.
• Executive engineering leadership with responsibility for strategy, execution, hiring, organizational design, and outcomes, while remaining credible in technical design reviews.
• Demonstrable understanding of cloud platforms, including virtualization, storage, networking, multi-tenancy, and bare-metal infrastructure.
• Experience owning and evolving production systems, leading distributed organizations across regions and time zones, and working through a deputy structure.
• Experience aligning software with hardware, fabric, storage, and physical infrastructure, plus the judgment to define boundaries with product, security, infrastructure, and delivery functions.
• Comfortable with full-time on-site presence in Palo Alto.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with IaaS or cloud platforms operated at scale, including neocloud, hyperscaler, GPU cloud, or HPC environments.
• Familiarity with KVM, QEMU, Ceph, SPDK, BGP, VXLAN, Kubernetes operators, PXE, Flatcar, Go, Python, and Rust.
• Experience integrating inherited or acquired engineering teams and building higher-level services on infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with ISO 27001 or SOC 2 obligations and AI-assisted development at organizational scale.
