Senior Manager, Underwriting (Commercial Insurance)

Location: Remote within the United States; U.S. territories excluded. Reliable, high-speed internet required.

Salary: $130,000–$165,000 USD base compensation per year

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day operations for the New Business Underwriting team, ensuring service levels, underwriting guidelines, and quality standards are met.
• Handle escalations involving complex submissions, risk evaluations, and underwriting judgment calls.
• Manage workload distribution and team capacity during volume fluctuations and staffing changes.
• Coach and develop underwriters, team leads, and managers while supporting hiring, performance management, and offboarding.
• Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, underwriting quality, and conversion.
• Provide performance reporting and serve as an operational contact for partner agents and Business Development.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of commercial insurance experience.
• Minimum 4 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial insurance underwriting.
• Strong technical underwriting judgment and the ability to independently evaluate complex risks.
• Experience balancing team throughput, quality, operational execution, and talent development.
• Strong data fluency, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Nice to have

• Workers' compensation underwriting experience.
• Experience leading managers or team leads.
• CPCU, ARe, or equivalent professional designation.
• Proficiency with Slack.
