Senior Combustion Devices Engineer II / Principal Combustion Devices Engineer

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. This position is based out of hirify.global's headquarters and may involve work in production areas.

Salary: $144,000–$270,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

hirify.global is an end-to-end space company developing rockets, spacecraft, and critical aerospace subsystems, including the Neutron launch vehicle and Archimedes engines.

What you will do

• Design, analyze, and perform trade studies for combustion devices, including preburners, main injectors, thrust chamber assemblies, and vacuum nozzles.
• Define component requirements and test and flight qualification plans.
• Collaborate with turbomachinery and engine systems interface owners to develop an integrated, rapidly iterative engine product.
• Work with manufacturing and build engineers to create manufacturable and cost-effective components.
• Support testing and launches by interpreting data and providing solutions for high-cadence tests, flights, and re-flights.
• Own component development from design and analysis through manufacturing, testing, and successful flight operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of combustion device design experience for the Senior level, or 12+ years for the Principal level.
• In-depth knowledge of combustion and fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics.
• Fundamental understanding of design principles and manufacturing methods.
• For work in U.S. offices, candidates must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, such as U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.
• The role may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and computer work, as well as occasional exposure to moderate noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.

Nice to have

• Master's degree or PhD.
• Advanced proficiency with NX, ANSYS Mechanical, StarCCM, MATLAB, and GD&T.
• Experience with TDK, ROCCID, PERCORP, CEA, or ROCETS.
• Reacting-flow CFD and high-speed data or video analysis in time and frequency domains.
• Experience designing reusable, propulsively landing rocket engines or working in an iterative, scrappy development environment.
