Propulsion Mechanical Engineer (Combustion) - Dropship (Aerospace)

Location: Alameda HQ; on-site

Salary: $101,000–$127,000 annually plus equity

What you will do

• Own mechanical components from requirements definition through prototyping, testing, and serial production.
• Design and integrate combustion propulsion hardware, including engine mounts, cooling ducts, fueling systems, exhaust systems, and thermal-management components.
• Perform hand calculations, FEA, and CFD to validate stress, stiffness, fluid flow, and heat rejection.
• Design engine performance test stands and lead hands-on assembly, instrumentation, and testing of propulsion systems.
• Create tooling and fixtures for testing and manufacturing, along with detailed SolidWorks CAD models and engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Flight Test teams to identify hardware issues and implement rapid design improvements.

Requirements

• 1–4+ years of professional mechanical design experience; aerospace, automotive, or high-performance vehicle experience is preferred.
• Strong technical or personal experience with combustion engines, including fueling, turbocharging, power output, and thermal behavior.
• Ability to perform sizing calculations for fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and experience using FEA for design validation.
• Understanding of CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, and composite integration.
• Hands-on prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
