Systems Engineer – Project Engineer V (Aerospace)

Location: Folsom, California, or remote in Colorado. Travel of approximately 10% is required, and work may take place in secure or classified environments.

Salary: $161,700–$199,400 USD annually in California; $153,615–$189,430 USD annually in Nevada.

What you will do

• Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase defense and aerospace programs.
• Define system architecture, integration, verification, technical baselines, configuration management, and integration planning.
• Oversee engineering execution across Integrated Product Teams, subcontractors, and suppliers while managing technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
• Lead major design and integration reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR, and track technical performance metrics.
• Interface with executive management and DoD customers during technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews.
• Develop risk and opportunity frameworks, support proposals and cost estimation, mentor engineering leads, and improve organizational engineering processes.

Requirements

• Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. DoD Secret Clearance.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in project engineering, systems engineering, or program-level technical leadership, with degree-equivalent alternatives accepted.
• Experience leading large-scale DoD or MDA programs through concept development, system integration, verification, qualification, and delivery.
• Experience as a Control Account Manager and technical lead under EVMS-compliant contracts.
• Deep knowledge of the DoD acquisition lifecycle, including the DoDI 5000 series, and MIL-STD systems engineering processes.
• Advanced skills in system integration, verification planning, risk-based engineering, technical trade analysis, configuration control, and engineering project planning tools.

Nice to have

• Background in propulsion systems, flight vehicle integration, or complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience overseeing major subcontractors and suppliers, leading customer engagements, supporting proposals, and improving engineering processes.
