In-House Litigation Discovery Counsel

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid work model with the majority of time required in the office. Travel may be required for trials, litigation-related events, and occasional visits to the Bloomington, Illinois headquarters.

Salary: $185,000–$280,000 per year, plus potential annual incentive pay of up to 30% of base salary.

What you will do

• Manage institutional discovery strategy across bad faith, class action, and other litigation matters.
• Respond to written discovery, handle meet-and-confers and discovery disputes, and respond to third-party subpoenas in state and federal proceedings.
• Prepare company witnesses and corporate representatives for depositions and other testimony.
• Draft and negotiate eDiscovery protocols, protective orders, related agreements, and privilege analysis strategies.
• Develop and validate defensible document review processes using predictive coding, analytics, sampling, and statistical validation.
• Collaborate with business contacts, legal teams, IT, vendors, and outside counsel while advising on discovery technology, including GenAI.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school with outstanding academic credentials.
• Active law license in at least one state and good standing with the bar.
• If not licensed in Illinois, obtain an in-house limited license and submit an application to the Illinois Board of Admissions within 90 days of starting.
• Preferred: 7+ years of significant discovery, motion practice, or technology-assisted discovery experience, including CAL/TAR or AI.
• Proactive approach to legal advice, adaptability, continuous learning, and effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. immediately; visa sponsorship is not available.
