Product Environmental Compliance Engineer (Photonics)

Location: On-site in Ottawa, Canada, or Towcester, Northamptonshire, UK

Salary: CAD 71,450–102,100 annually, with final compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Review supplier material declarations, technical specifications, test reports, and other documentation to verify product compliance.
• Analyse Bills of Materials and assess materials against global environmental regulations.
• Prepare product compliance declarations and Full Material Declarations.
• Respond to customer environmental compliance enquiries and questionnaires.
• Support engineering change processes and maintain compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
• Collect and analyse conflict minerals data, conduct Life Cycle Assessments, monitor legislation, and advise the business on compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Approximately 3–5 years of experience in environmental compliance, product stewardship, or sustainability within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Experience with product environmental compliance, Life Cycle Assessment, product carbon footprints, and environmental impact assessments.
• Ability to review BOMs, material declarations, technical specifications, and supplier documentation, and identify compliance risks through technical analysis.
• Knowledge of responsible minerals due diligence, including CMRT and EMRT reporting, and materials, chemicals, and restricted substances used in electronic products.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are essential. Knowledge of EU RoHS, China RoHS, REACH, POPs, WEEE, ISO 14040, and ISO 14044 is required.

Nice to have

• IPC-1752 and environmental compliance data management systems experience.
• Experience in electronics, semiconductor, photonics, optical communications, or contract manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Agile or similar product lifecycle management systems.
• Data analysis, reporting, or automation skills for improving compliance processes.
