General Counsel & Vice President, Legal and Regulatory Affairs (Satellite Communications)

Location: Remote in Canada or the United States, with occasional on-site presence at the Toronto headquarters.

What you will do

• Advise the CEO, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on legal, regulatory, governance, compliance, and business matters.
• Develop and execute global legal and regulatory strategy supporting growth, international expansion, and strategic commercial initiatives.
• Lead corporate legal matters including commercial agreements, partnerships, employment law, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, litigation, and governance.
• Direct spectrum strategy, frequency planning, ITU coordination, national licensing, market access, regulatory filings, and interference mitigation.
• Develop government relations and public policy initiatives supporting commercial space, government, and defense programs.
• Lead compliance, risk management, export control, sanctions, anti-corruption, government contracting, ethics, and internal investigation activities.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in the United States or Canada.
• 15+ years of progressively responsible legal leadership experience.
• Experience advising executive leadership and Boards of Directors on complex legal and business matters.
• Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing legal teams and outside counsel.
• Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, satellite communications, telecommunications, or another highly regulated technology industry.
• Knowledge of spectrum regulation, satellite licensing, FCC, ISED, ITU, and international regulatory frameworks.
• Experience supporting government and defense programs.
• Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, CGP, and government security requirements.
• Experience in venture-backed or high-growth technology companies with international corporate structures.
