Mainframe Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Prague, Czech Republic; primarily in-office work from the Prague office is required

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain a Java-based agent running on IBM z/OS.
• Build scanning and interaction capabilities for VSAM, QSAM, IMS, DB2, flat files, datasets, and system-level resources.
• Design, implement, and support scalable software solutions from development through production operations.
• Build and maintain microservices and APIs using Spring and Spring Boot.
• Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability for large-scale data scanning and processing workloads.
• Share mainframe expertise and collaborate with engineering, architecture, product, and cross-functional teams on platform modernization.

Requirements

• Experience with Java and modern frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience building distributed systems, APIs, or microservices-based architectures.
• Experience working with IBM z/OS or enterprise mainframe environments.
• Knowledge of mainframe technologies and concepts such as VSAM, QSAM, JCL, datasets, DB2, or IMS.
• Familiarity with containerized environments and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, performance, reliability, and maintainability skills.

Nice to have

• AI-assisted development tools and practices.
• DevOps, CI/CD, and software delivery automation.
• Golang development.
• COBOL, REXX, RACF, USS, or other mainframe technologies.
• Experience with legacy modernization and platform transformation initiatives.
