Head of Legal & Compliance (AI & Robotics)

Location: On-site in Toronto GTA, Canada

Salary: CA$150,000–CA$175,000 total wage range, plus potential equity and benefits.

hirify.global builds data infrastructure for robotics and embodied AI, including data capture, labeling, licensing, and hardware-enabled deployment workflows for AI labs, robotics companies, and enterprise customers.

What you will do

• Own the privacy program across PIPEDA, GDPR, customer obligations, data handling, access controls, retention, deletion, and audit readiness.
• Build controls and agreements for robotics training-data licensing, dataset provenance, permitted use, confidentiality, exclusivity, indemnities, and onward transfers.
• Lead negotiation of AI lab agreements, enterprise customer contracts, robot deployment MSAs, statements of work, SLAs, support terms, and site requirements.
• Own employment contracts, contractor agreements, onboarding documentation, worker classification, confidentiality, IP, and termination workflows across Canada, the US, and China.
• Manage outside counsel, legal budgets, regulatory monitoring, deployment compliance, safety documentation, IP protection, and legal operations systems.
• Maintain a board-ready view of privacy, commercial, employment, IP, AI, robotics, and regulatory risks with concrete mitigation plans.

Requirements

• JD, LLB, or equivalent law degree with active bar admission in Canada, the US, or both.
• Five or more years of post-call legal practice with meaningful corporate and commercial experience.
• Hands-on experience with technology, data, SaaS, AI, robotics, enterprise services, vendor, or partner contracts.
• Working fluency with employment contracts, contractor structures, confidentiality and IP agreements, and cross-border employment issues.
• Experience with privacy and data-protection programs, including PIPEDA, GDPR, or comparable regimes.
• Ability to operate across Canada, the US, and China and provide practical, commercially grounded legal recommendations.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI labs, data licensing, robotics, autonomy, workforce integrity, or technical operations businesses.
• Experience as the first or most senior internal legal or compliance operator at a venture-backed company.
• Exposure to procurement, enterprise security reviews, privacy diligence, or China-specific legal matters.
