Head of Legal & Compliance (AI/Robotics)

Location: Toronto, hybrid

Salary: CA$150,000–CA$175,000 per year, plus equity

hirify.global builds data and deployment infrastructure for embodied intelligence, collecting and licensing robotics training data and deploying robotic systems for enterprise customers.

What you will do

• Own the privacy program covering PIPEDA, GDPR, customer privacy obligations, data handling, access controls, retention, deletion, and audit readiness.
• Build review processes for robotics training data licensing, dataset provenance, permitted use, onward transfers, and customer privacy diligence.
• Draft and negotiate AI lab data licenses, enterprise deployment agreements, MSAs, SOWs, SLAs, support terms, and customer site requirements.
• Own employment contracts, contractor agreements, confidentiality and IP documentation, and employment compliance across Canada, the US, and China.
• Manage outside counsel, legal budgets, regulatory monitoring, IP protection, deployment compliance, incident documentation, and board-ready risk reporting.
• Establish legal operations infrastructure including templates, clause libraries, trackers, approval workflows, repositories, renewal calendars, and audit trails.

Requirements

• JD, LLB, or equivalent law degree with active bar admission in Canada, the US, or both.
• At least five years of post-call legal practice with substantial corporate and commercial experience.
• Hands-on experience negotiating technology, data, SaaS, AI, robotics, enterprise services, vendor, and partner agreements.
• Experience with employment contracts, contractor structures, confidentiality and IP agreements, and cross-border employment matters.
• Direct experience with privacy and data protection programs, including PIPEDA, GDPR, or comparable regimes.
• Commercially grounded operator mindset, with experience building legal or compliance functions in a startup or venture-backed company.

Nice to have

• Exposure to AI labs, data licensing, robotics, autonomy, workforce integrity, or technical operations businesses.
• Experience coordinating Canada-US matters and managing China-specific local counsel.
• Familiarity with enterprise procurement, security, privacy, and vendor evaluation processes.
