Senior Mechanical Engineer, Robotics Hardware

Location: On-site in Chatsworth, California, United States; occasional travel to suppliers, customers, or additional factory sites. Must be a U.S. person under ITAR.

What you will do

• Own mechanical hardware design for robotic sheet-forming cells from concept through release and production.
• Design robot end-of-arm tooling, spindle assemblies, heated forming tools, machine frames, structural hardware, and other cell subsystems.
• Define mechanical, fluid, and electrical interfaces and integrate cooling, lubrication, material transport, vacuum, actuation, and sensing systems.
• Perform tolerance, structural, and thermal analyses; create verification plans, run tests, and use test data to improve designs.
• Produce CAD, fabrication-ready drawings with GD&T, bills of materials, revision histories, capability specifications, and engineering changes.
• Support suppliers and production by resolving technical questions, investigating failures, and improving reliability, serviceability, and cost.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of mechanical design experience in robotics, industrial machinery, or automation equipment, including ownership of complex assemblies from concept through production.
• Experience designing mechatronic hardware such as actuated mechanisms, dynamic kinematic assemblies, or robotic end-of-arm tooling.
• Strong CAD skills, fabrication-ready drawings, GD&T, material selection, failure-mode analysis, and structural, tolerance, or thermal analysis.
• Experience writing and executing design verification tests and iterating designs from test data; familiarity with fluid systems, sensor integration, or heated hardware.
• Must be a U.S. person under ITAR and able to work on-site in Chatsworth, California.

Nice to have

• Experience with spindles, bearings, rotating hardware, heated tooling, or elevated-temperature thermal management.
• FEA experience with ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar tools.
• Experience with KUKA, Fanuc, or similar robot tool interfaces and tool changers.
• Experience with machine shops, fabrication suppliers, weld design, dynamic cable or hose routing, and offline programming.
• Experience with formal engineering reviews, release gates, and engineering change control systems such as SolidWorks PDM.
