Forward Deployed Engineering, Portworx (Kubernetes)

Location: Primarily onsite at the Santa Clara, California office; travel to customer sites and periodic visits to live accounts are required.

Annual base salary: $208,000–$305,000 USD, with potential incentive pay and/or equity.

What you will do

• Design and validate production Portworx architectures for multi-cluster, disaster recovery, KubeVirt migration, regulated, air-gapped, and cloud-native CaaS environments.
• Reproduce customer environments in the lab, validate solution patterns, and lead hands-on implementation through production stabilization and handoff.
• Configure storage classes, KVDB topologies, snapshot and backup policies, replication, capacity models, and sizing plans.
• Validate failure modes and performance, troubleshoot production-blocking issues, and lead critical rollout war rooms.
• Create runbooks, reference architectures, and automation while upskilling customer platform teams for independent operation.
• Build relationships with senior infrastructure leaders, identify platform needs and expansion opportunities, and structure field feedback for Product and Engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure or platform engineering, SRE, field engineering, or solutions engineering.
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes production experience; CKA, CKS, or equivalent experience is expected.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise storage, including SAN/NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NVMe/TCP, dm-multipath, and LVM.
• Solid Linux systems administration experience and practical knowledge of both on-premises and cloud/CaaS deployment models.
• Understanding of CI/CD, application deployment patterns, and development workflows sufficient to assess broader CaaS platform needs.
• Strong technical writing and relationship-building skills, including working with Directors and VPs of Infrastructure and Platform Engineering.

• Forward-deployed, field engineering, or professional services experience.
• Experience with VMware, KubeVirt, or VM migration patterns.
• Experience with Portworx, CSI-based storage platforms, or enterprise storage vendors such as Pure Storage, NetApp, or Dell.
