Datacenter System Software Architect (RISC-V/Linux)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States; onsite role

Base pay: $231,444–$282,876 per year, plus potential variable or incentive compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Architect high-performance RISC-V systems and system software for hyperscaler datacenter deployments.
• Define and review hardware and software architecture specifications and help plan implementation roadmaps.
• Guide server software and firmware stacks, including platform firmware, hypervisors, Linux, and application stacks.
• Port and optimize hyperscaler virtualization stacks for RISC-V and identify performance bottlenecks with benchmarking and optimization teams.
• Integrate server extension technologies such as CXL, RDMA, networking and storage offload, and compute accelerators.
• Collaborate with customers, partners, hardware architects, standards organizations, and external RISC-V ecosystem contributors.

Requirements

• Experience defining x86 or ARM server requirements for hyperscaler use cases, including RAS, telemetry, manageability, and I/O offloading.
• Experience with distributed databases, AI/ML training and inference, agentic AI, and high-throughput microservices.
• Experience developing low-level C code for multiprocessor and multithreaded operating systems such as the Linux or BSD kernel.
• Understanding of CPU and system architecture, VLSI design concepts, PCIe, Device Tree, ACPI, UEFI, and the RISC-V software ecosystem.
• Experience with datacenter Linux distributions including Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and SLES.
• Must provide satisfactory proof of the right to work in the United States; employment is also subject to background and reference checks and export-control authorization requirements.

• Experience working with RTL engineers and RTL product lifecycles.
• Experience with C++ or Rust.
• Experience with production AI inference and training systems.
• Experience working in global teams and cross-cultural communication.
