TL;DR
Manager, Outbound Rail - Finished Vehicle Logistics (AI): Developing and operating the outbound rail logistics program for finished vehicles from Scout Motors’ production center with an accent on rail network design, carrier contracts, fleet capacity, and AI-driven logistics optimization. Focus on building greenfield rail operations, managing Class I and regional railroad partnerships, improving predictive visibility and disruption response, and ensuring safety, compliance, and cost performance.

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings and events are required, along with approximately 25% domestic and international travel. A valid driver's license and passport are required.

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute the outbound rail strategy for finished vehicle shipments from the Blythewood production center.
  • Design rail routes, lane structures, distribution flows, and partnerships with Class I railroads, regional railroads, haul-away carriers, and distribution hubs.
  • Create SOWs, SLAs, contracts, budgets, forecasts, and cost optimization initiatives for rail logistics operations.
  • Manage autorack railcar capacity, cycle times, utilization, partner KPIs, transit performance, dwell times, and damages.
  • Deploy AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, digital twins, track-and-trace, and automation tools for forecasting, network optimization, ETA accuracy, and disruption mitigation.
  • Coordinate with Logistics, Sales Operations, Quality, IT, Data Analytics, production, procurement, and yard operations while providing executive-level reporting and escalation management.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in finished vehicle logistics, rail transportation, or related supply chain management.
  • Experience establishing and managing rail carrier contracts, SLAs, and SOWs.
  • Strong knowledge of North American rail networks, Class I railroads, short line operations, and automotive loading.
  • Experience with TMS, yard management systems, vehicle tracking technologies, AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, and logistics automation.
  • Experience managing railcar fleets and launching logistics operations in a greenfield or new-plant environment.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, financial management, project management, organizational, and cross-functional leadership skills.
