Vice President - HTS Magnet Engineering (Fusion)

What you will do

• Define the long-term technical strategy and vision for HTS magnet engineering across the fusion program.
• Build, lead, and scale the magnet engineering organization, including hiring and developing directors, managers, engineers, and analysts.
• Own the engineering budget, headcount plan, capital investment strategy, and test and manufacturing infrastructure.
• Set milestones for magnet design, construction, and testing in alignment with company strategy and fundraising milestones.
• Provide executive-level judgment on magnet specifications, design trade-offs, and portfolio-level risk mitigation.
• Manage strategic suppliers, manufacturing partners, and executive relationships with the CTO, CEO, investors, government stakeholders, and the fusion community.

Requirements

• 15+ years of engineering experience with magnets, cryogenics, vacuum systems, transformer design, or related areas.
• Deep technical expertise in HTS magnets, electromagnetics, or related disciplines.
• Experience leading large, fast-growing engineering organizations and scaling teams from early-stage development to production readiness.
• Experience owning multi-million-dollar engineering budgets, capital planning, organizational design, and complex hardware supplier relationships.
• Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
• Ability to work on-site in an industrial facility with hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics. Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs., travel, nights, weekends, and on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

• Experience with magnetic confinement fusion, aerospace, medical devices, or other highly technical regulated industries.
• Experience as a senior engineering executive in a hardware-intensive startup or advanced technology environment.
• Advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
