Staff Software Engineer-Backend (Automotive)

Location: Fremont, California, United States; hybrid schedule with one day per week in the office. Regular in-person meetings, events, and occasional business travel are required. The role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.

Salary: $181,500–$220,000 annual base salary for California, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and support scalable backend systems and interoperable products across digital and in-vehicle experiences.
• Lead architecture and development of complex software systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Build identity, access, and profile services for web, mobile, vehicle, internal, and customer applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and deliverables.
• Apply software development standards including code reviews, testing, and documentation while ensuring 24/7 on-call coverage for owned services.
• Mentor junior engineers and use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one of Go, Node.js, Python, or Java.
• Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis.
• Experience with identity management and directory services, including Azure AD, AWS Cognito, LDAP, Okta, or Keycloak.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, troubleshooting, and technical communication.
