TL;DR
Staff Design Verification Engineer (CPU): Driving verification of high-performance out-of-order CPU core units across frontend, midcore, load-store, and hardware prefetch areas with an accent on microarchitectural correctness, scalable verification methodology, and coverage closure. Location: Austin, Texas, United States. Proof of the right to work in the United States is required, along with authorization to access export-controlled technology or the ability to obtain the necessary export license or approval.

What you will do

  • Own verification planning and execution for high-performance out-of-order CPU core areas, including Frontend, Midcore, Load-Store Unit, and Hardware Prefetch.
  • Drive block-level and core-level planning, debug, coverage analysis, and coverage closure for complex CPU features.
  • Define verification strategies for instruction fetch, branch prediction, issue and dispatch, pipeline interactions, load/store ordering, hazards, memory consistency, and hardware prefetch.
  • Develop verification environments, checkers, scoreboards, assertions, stimulus, and coverage models using scalable methodologies.
  • Work with architecture, RTL, performance, and verification teams to clarify specifications, identify risks, and improve design debugability.
  • Lead failure analysis, root-cause debugging, reusable infrastructure, and technical guidance across future CPU core generations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant ASIC, CPU/core, or SoC design verification experience; the posting also references 5–8 years of relevant IP/component functional verification experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification.
  • Direct CPU/core verification experience and a deep understanding of computer architecture and CPU microarchitecture.
  • Experience with high-performance CPU areas such as Frontend, Midcore, Load-Store Unit, memory ordering and consistency, or hardware prefetch.
  • Knowledge of verification planning, constrained-random or directed stimulus, failure analysis, coverage analysis, coverage closure, and object-oriented programming principles.

Nice to have

  • Out-of-order core verification experience.
  • Formal verification or emulation experience for high-risk or performance-sensitive problems.
  • Collaboration with performance, compiler, system verification, and software teams.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing verification methodology beyond an immediate block or feature.
  • Python, C/C++, or other programming and scripting experience for design verification infrastructure and automation.
