EHS Lead (Data Centers)

Location: Based in Helsinki or a European hub; hybrid work with regular travel to data center sites across the EU and UK

What you will do

• Build the health and safety management system for data center construction and live operations, including policies, SOPs, risk assessments, permit-to-work, permit control, and lockout/tagout.
• Design onboarding, training, toolbox talks, and behavioural safety programs for engineers, technicians, contractors, and other site personnel.
• Manage occupational health and safety compliance across multiple European countries and maintain audit readiness as new jurisdictions are added.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive improvements across the data center estate.
• Manage contractor and construction safety during build and fit-out phases, and own emergency preparedness and fire safety planning.
• Report safety metrics, risks, and trends to management while partnering with operations, expansion project managers, and facilities teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in EHS or health and safety within data centers, critical facilities, construction, heavy industry, or another high-hazard mission-critical environment.
• Experience building safety programs and management systems from scratch.
• Strong knowledge of EU and/or national occupational health and safety regulations.
• Experience influencing technicians, engineers, contractors, and leadership and shaping safety culture.
• Knowledge of electrical safety, working at height, mechanical plant, and confined-space hazards.
• Relevant qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, IOSH membership, or a national equivalent; strong written and verbal English required.

Nice to have

• Hands-on data center, hyperscale, or HPC experience, including high-density racks, high-voltage electrical safety, and liquid cooling.
• Construction-phase safety experience, including CDM or national equivalents.
• Experience managing safety across multiple European countries.
• ISO 45001 implementation or Lead Auditor certification.
• Experience building safety processes in a fast-growing company.
