Senior Software Engineer (Backend) (Robotics)

Location: Boston office in Charlestown, MA, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and additional onsite days as needed

Salary: $176,000–$183,500 annually in Boston

hirify.global is a mealtime platform that combines dishes from multiple restaurants in one order and operates the culinary, technology, and logistics infrastructure behind the dining experience. Its Robotics team develops automation solutions for restaurant operations.

What you will do

• Design and implement backend systems that manage complex state across distributed services, robotic systems, and human-machine workflows.
• Build infrastructure spanning cloud and on-premise resources, including event-driven architectures, PostgreSQL databases, WebSocket protocols, and containerized applications.
• Develop real-time systems with Elixir and Phoenix that connect cloud services, onsite robotic hardware, frontend applications, and hirify.global software.
• Maintain reliability and performance in live production restaurants, including release management, testing, monitoring, and zero-data-loss workflows.
• Own features end to end, evaluate technical tradeoffs, write specifications, and collaborate with product, design, operations, and engineering partners.
• Mentor engineers, facilitate technical discussions, improve development processes, and automate repetitive tasks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping highly concurrent, distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Elixir, OTP, and the Phoenix framework.
• Strong system design skills and experience owning product features end to end.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL and relational database design.
• Experience with WebSocket events, REST APIs, webhooks, message-based systems, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus strong communication and troubleshooting skills.
