Senior Backend Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Fremont, California, United States; one day per week in the office with regular in-person meetings and occasional travel. Not eligible for remote work in New York City.

Salary: $154,000–$187,000 annual California base salary range, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend services supporting vehicle configuration, trade-in, financing, leasing, and delivery.
• Design performant, maintainable APIs, data models, and service logic.
• Integrate valuation services, lender platforms, logistics APIs, and factory systems through reliable abstraction layers.
• Apply distributed-systems practices including error handling, retries, idempotency, and observability.
• Own features end to end, from scoping and design through testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, external partners, and partner teams through reviews and delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
• Proficiency in one of Go, Node, Python, Java, or Ruby.
• Experience with relational or non-relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis.
• Experience with identity management and directory services, including Azure AD, AWS Cognito, LDAP, Okta, or Keycloak.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, troubleshooting, communication, and collaborative development.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI/ML platform foundations or developer AI tooling.
• Experience in automotive, mobility, retail, ecommerce, or digital consumer products.
• Experience with multi-tenant platforms and shared enterprise services.
