Principal Platform Engineer, AI & Infrastructure

Location: Denver, CO; Long Beach, CA; or Washington, DC. Hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office; onsite requirements may increase for classified systems.

Base salary: $255,000–$355,000 in Denver; $270,000–$375,000 in Long Beach or Washington, DC, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Set the technical vision and multi-quarter roadmap for AI platforms, infrastructure, and platform engineering.
• Design and deliver platforms and systems for ambiguous, high-stakes enterprise problems.
• Guide architecture across AI, infrastructure, data, DevOps, CI/CD, developer experience, and compute.
• Evaluate AI providers, platforms, and tooling, including build-versus-buy decisions.
• Advise engineering, product, and business functions on applying AI and agentic engineering.
• Mentor engineers, establish technical standards, and align teams on shared platform direction.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering, DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in AI platforms and agentic engineering, with strong hands-on cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, developer platform, and compute experience.
• Production experience with cloud environments including AWS, Azure, or GCP, infrastructure-as-code, networking, identity, and deployment foundations.
• Experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool use, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent frameworks.
• Strong communication, architecture, technical leadership, and experience resolving ambiguous problems autonomously.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance are required. ITAR eligibility is also required.

Nice to have

• Experience with data platforms, pipelines, big-data infrastructure, and enterprise search.
• Experience deploying AI or ML systems in government, defense, or regulated environments.
• Familiarity with AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, IL4, or IL5.
• Experience with model evaluation, observability, containers, orchestration, service mesh, and artifact management.
