Senior Systems and Network Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Based at the College Park, Maryland office, with the option to work remotely a few days per week. Travel: up to 15%.

Base salary: $126,887–$166,127 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Provision Linux servers and system heads for quantum hardware using PXE boot, OS installation, and automated configuration.
• Build infrastructure-as-code workflows for reproducible server and network provisioning.
• Design, configure, and troubleshoot lab and datacenter networks, including VLANs, managed switches, firewalls, and structured cabling.
• Integrate cameras, laser control systems, custom device drivers, and other scientific hardware into the compute environment.
• Manage servers through IPMI/BMC and other out-of-band tools, and resolve infrastructure issues blocking hardware builds or experiments.
• Document handoff criteria, runbooks, and provisioning knowledge while partnering with software, DevOps, and hardware engineering teams.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on systems, network, or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Production experience configuring switches, firewalls, routers, VLANs, managed-switch environments, and on-premise servers.
• Experience building provisioning workflows with infrastructure-as-code or automation tools such as Ansible, Salt, Kickstart, Foreman, Cobbler, or Packer.
• Experience integrating non-standard or custom hardware into compute environments.
• Working knowledge of IPMI/BMC and out-of-band server management.
• Strong scripting ability in Python, Go, or an equivalent language.

Nice to have

• Experience operating large-scale bare-metal, colocation, or high-density compute fleets.
• Kubernetes or container orchestration experience in bare-metal or hybrid environments.
• Experience with configuration drift detection, idempotent provisioning pipelines, and cloud networking.
• Research, national laboratory, scientific computing, quantum computing, or other deep-tech hardware experience.
