Principal Engineer - Product (RF/Microwave)

Location: Simsbury, Connecticut, United States; onsite. Travel: 0%–25%. The role requires 100% indoor work, approximately 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking.

Annual base salary: $75,000–$232,000 USD, plus restricted stock units and quarterly bonuses.

What you will do

• Develop low-noise Voltage Controlled SAW Oscillator products and support existing Surface Acoustic Wave product lines.
• Define product requirements and project scope with product management, sales, marketing, customers, and engineering stakeholders.
• Plan and execute projects from order or concept through product release, production support, and sustaining engineering.
• Perform RF and DC circuit design and simulation, PCB design, electromagnetic simulation, stress analysis, and statistical analysis.
• Collaborate with engineering, technicians, manufacturing, procurement, and test teams on prototyping, manufacturability, yield improvement, and production tools.
• Prepare design reviews, validate manufacturing documentation and procedures, and perform root-cause and corrective-action analysis for work-in-progress or field failures.

Requirements

• Motivation and a demonstrated history of independently driving significant projects to completion with urgency.
• BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience using DC and RF circuit simulators.
• At least 5 years of experience specifically working with RF or microwave circuits at 2 GHz or higher.
• Strong understanding of PCB design for RF and/or microwave circuits, including manufacturability.
• In-depth knowledge of network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal analyzers, oscilloscopes, and similar equipment, with the ability to interpret results.
• Experience collecting data and performing statistical analysis using common tools such as Excel.
• Strong failure-analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and strong Microsoft Office skills, including high proficiency in Excel.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively in writing and verbally, including preparing and presenting technical data and engineering concepts.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret-level clearance at the company’s expense; US citizenship is a prerequisite.
• Must provide proof of US citizenship, permanent US residency, or protected-individual status for US export-control access.

Nice to have

• MS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience using ADS for small-signal, large-signal, and noise-performance design and simulation.
• Experience with 2.5D or 3D electromagnetic FEA simulation; HFSS preferred.
• Personal-computer programming experience.
• Dexterity, visual acuity, and soldering ability for removing or installing components down to 0402.
• RF/microwave PCB design experience; Altium preferred.
• Mechanical FEA analysis experience on electrical assemblies; ANSYS preferred.
• Experience performing phase-noise measurements and designing low-phase-noise voltage-controlled oscillators.
• Familiarity with hypothesis testing, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, and Gage R&R.
