Staff Process Development Engineer (Dep and Etch Engineer) (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Developing and improving dry and wet etch and thin-film deposition processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices with an accent on process capability, yield, defect reduction, and technology transfer. Focus on qualifying manufacturing processes, analysing SPC and equipment data, improving equipment performance, and supporting new product introduction in a semiconductor cleanroom.

Location: United Kingdom - Towcester, Northamptonshire; onsite work at the Caswell semiconductor fabrication facility

What you will do

  • Develop, qualify, maintain, and continuously improve dry and wet etch processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices.
  • Develop and optimise dielectric thin-film deposition processes using ALD, PECVD, sputtering, and related technologies.
  • Drive yield enhancement, defect reduction, scrap reduction, cycle-time improvement, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Analyse process and equipment data using SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical methods.
  • Perform equipment qualification and cross-qualification, support fault finding, and improve process equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D teams on NPI and technology transfer.

Requirements

  • HNC/HND, bachelor's, master's, PhD, or equivalent industrial experience in semiconductor technology, materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, electronic engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in semiconductor, photonics, compound semiconductor, MEMS, optoelectronics, silicon photonics, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a semiconductor cleanroom, perform wet etching, follow health, safety, and environmental procedures, and work shifts when required.
  • Competent PC user, including Microsoft Office; knowledge of manufacturing execution systems is required.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of photonic integrated circuit manufacture.
  • Experience in a high-technology manufacturing or production environment.
