Computational Biologist (AI)

Location: Remote available in the U.S. only; New York or San Francisco. The role includes on-site engagement with client scientists and research leaders.

Salary: $220,000–$300,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Build and evaluate AI agent systems for biological discovery and clinical development.
• Design benchmarks, acceptance criteria, and failure-mode analyses for LLM agents performing complex scientific tasks.
• Partner with scientists and research leaders to apply AI agents to biological research and generate novel findings.
• Assess AI-generated results for biological validity and identify findings that warrant further investigation.
• Improve agent performance in customer data infrastructures and real-world scientific workflows.
• Support engagement scoping, success metrics, pre-sales technical evaluations, scientific playbooks, and publications.

Requirements

• PhD in biological science or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
• Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements in pharmaceutical or biotech research.
• First-author publication involving complex biological data such as sc-omics, high-throughput screening, proteomics, lipidomics, human genetics, imaging, or protein structures.
• Deep expertise in one area of mammalian biology and the ability to develop fluency in adjacent domains.
• Hands-on experience with LLM and agentic AI tools in biological research.
• Strong critical thinking and scientific communication skills, including evaluation of LLM-generated analyses.

Nice to have

• Strong Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript fundamentals.
• Rapid prototyping and independent execution in high-stakes environments.
• Experimental design experience, including the ability to run experiments directly or through a CRO.
• Industry or client-facing research experience outside academia.
